My Story

During my three years of experience in therapy I have developed specialization in teaching adaptive skills and helping people to address challenging thoughts and behaviours. My approach helps people build a foundation of skills that allows for personal growth through the development of behaviour plans and habit building. I believe in evidenced based treatments from a behaviour analytic perspective. This therapeutic approach allows for sustainable change with a goal of developing a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
While working with the Canadian Mental Health Association I developed educational supports on mental health issues for anxiety and depression, and facilitated programs to break bad habits and build new routines. My previous research has focused on the benefits of mindfulness training, and my current training and experience at Mental Strength Therapy & Consulting encompasses acceptance based procedures designed to change our relationship with our thoughts and emotions, which facilitates increased behavioural effectiveness and personal contentment.
In addition to my work with adults I have several years of experience working with children, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder. Services for children and adolescents require clear, direct, and ongoing communication, and it is important to know that my individualized approach for youth is evidence based, collaborative, and family centered.
On a personal note, my husband and I share 2 dogs. Charlie is a therapy animal that has volunteered at both St. Amant and within palliative care, and Murphy is a rambunctious Labrador mix that definitely keeps us on our toes!
I look forward to meeting with you. Please email me to set up an introductory consultation to determine the best therapy for you or your child.
